Cute Class Valentines

The Classroom Valentines

One of the joys of being a working mom is the mom side of it. I love showing up for my son on the BIG days, so I have to find the easiest ways to make it happen.

The first time we experienced Valentine’s Day at school, I totally spaced. My son was only five months old, so it was OK. We received adorable Valentines from the kids with older siblings (whose mother’s were way more prepared). Year two? I was ready! I found out that Minted made classroom Valentines, so I was all for it.

I don’t particularly like when people give my child candy. I don’t just mean the creepy, fully able-bodied man on the handicap scooter with a basket full of candy at Walt Disney World whose hand I nearly smacked as he tried to give my baby a “treat,” but really anyone. The data about the harm and addictiveness of sugar is readily available. You don’t have to be Kourtney Kardashian to know that candy isn’t good for you kids.

It is a personal decision, and yes I do let me son have candy sometimes, but it’s the presumption that my kid can have candy that just bothers me a little.  I’m not here  to shame anyone for give candy to my child or their own, but I hope in the future holidays like Halloween and Valentine’s Day will be less about candy.

So in an effort to practice what I preach, I have for the last two years made Valentines that are something other than candy. The first year, I made the sweetest “I only have eye for you” cards and passed out little sunglasses. Last year, I found strawberry growing kits at Target and made “You’re Berry Sweet” Valentines.

I am excited to share this year’s Valentine with you on my Instagram, but until then, here are some of my favorite cards from Minted!

The fruit, popcorn, or s’mores themed ones are easy… just wrap the fruit or some instant popcorn in a cellophane bag, tie it with a ribbon and you’ve got a perfect Valentine.

Target has really cute little toys like bubbles, sunglasses, little cards and other figurines that could match the dino or auto options. The coffee themed one would be cute with a little gift card to Starbucks. Honey and jam could be good gifts also with the bee and jam cards.

What are you going to pass out this year? Share in the comments below!
